Detailed description of East Potomac Public Golf Course, White

East Potomac Golf Course is a public 36 hole golf facility located in Washing D.C. The facility has a 9-hole par-3 golf course (The Red Course), a 9-hole executive course (The White Course) and an 18-hole course (The Blue Course).

The East Potomac Golf Courses opened for play in 1920. They were designed by Robert White and have been rennovated by William S. Flynn.

Located in the shadow of the Monuments, historic East Potomac Golf Course is a part of the National Park System. Most noticeable is the Washington Monument, visible from any location on the course. Other landmarks include Ronald Reagan National Airport, Fort McNair, the Naval War College, and the Jefferson Memorial.

East Potomac Golf Course, The Blue Course ____________________

The Blue Course (the eighteen hole course) has wide fairways and large greens. East Potomac's Blue Course is the most challenging of the three courses with a links layout that plays into the wind. The signature hole is #8, a 211-yard, par 3, requiring a tee shot to a green with the Washington Monument in the background. Several sand bunkers have been incorporated into the design. The Blue Course plays to a par-72 and a maximum distance of 6,649 yards.

East Potomac Golf Course, The White Course ____________________

The White Course is a nine hole, par 34, executive course. An open layout and short par 4's make this course perfect for intermediate golfers who are not quite ready for the Blue Course. Experienced players can work on their iron play while taking in the views. The White Course has wide open fairways and small greens. Several sand bunkers have been incorporated into the design. TheWhite Course plays to a maximum distance of 2,480 yards.

East Potomac Golf Course, The Red Course ____________________

East Potomac's Red Course is nine holes of par three practice holes ranging from 100 to 200 yards. The Red Course has tight fairways and small greens. The Red Course is an excellent location for beginners just taking up the game. TheWhite Course plays to a maximum distance of 1,929 yards.

East Potomac Golf Course, Extras ____________________

In addition to the three golf courses, East Potomac G.C. features an expansive lighted driving range with 50 covered and 50 uncovered stalls. There is also a putting green and three practice holes, each with their own tee box, bunker, and green

After just playing/reviewing four (4) nice courses in the Woods Hole, Mass area, this was a little of a let down. But getting a early Friday morning tee time for three (3) people, thirteen (13) hours earlier, you take what you can get. The East Potomac "White" Executive course is a 2,420yd / 31.3 / 105 Links type Par 33 layout. Even though its basically flat they have done a pretty good job of placing sand traps protecting five (5) of these well conditioned and rolling (8-9) greens. Fairways (winter rules) are generous enough for the beginning golfer to have a open 2nd shot to the greens. Starting out is the shortest Par 3 hole at 156yds and a large green to warm up on. This is followed by #2 their Hcp1 and longest Par 4 at 381yds that has two (2) front RH traps guarding the elevated green. The #3 Par 4 at 266yds is a slight dogleg left but to a very small green. The #4 is a 285yd Par 4 that has three (3) deep front traps guarding this 8' elevated green so stay to the RH side of the green. The #5 is a 174yd Par 3 that has two (2) traps tucked to the front edge so no short bounce on's here. This is followed up by #6 a 190yd Par 3 that you can bounce on if needed with no traps. The #7 is a sweeping left 355yd Par 4 with two (2) traps hugging the front left side. The #8 is a dogleg left 286yd Par 4 with a large sand trap protecting those taking a short cut to the green. The #9 is a straightaway 327yd Par 4 with a thick grassy bunkers on the left side of the fairway 200-240yds out from the tee box. The 8' elevated green has a sand trap in the back for those shots not holding this flat green. We all enjoyed the 2hr pace and working with our 3 woods and long irons off the tee to the smaller but well conditioned greens. I ended up shooting 36 w/16putts and Neal had 35 w/14 putts and Jeffery had 54 w/20 putts but having a great time on the Links.

Would travel: 0-10 Miles, Not Vacation Worthy

It's not in great shape, but it is the easiest place to squeeze in 9 holes in the DC metro area: and at $15, it's really hard to beat.
